I am an experienced pharmacist and educationalist. I spent 10 years working in community pharmacy while undertaking a PG Clinical Diploma and then a PhD in pharmacy education. I've always been passionate about the role of professional development in extending roles, career development, and patient safety. My PhD focused on defining and evaluating competencies to support community pharmacists in their professional development.

My Story

After completing my PhD, I moved into academia, designing and managing postgraduate courses for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. In my role as Director of Postgraduate Studies at Keele University's School of Pharmacy, I led the development of a professional doctorate for pharmacists. I wrote a distance learning level 8 research methods module, which was unique to Keele and beyond in its level and delivery. It was at Keele that I honed my skills in developing distance learning, and, as technology progressed, e-learning, including pioneering the use of webinars to deliver training. At UCL, I developed the Clinically Enhanced Pharmacist Independent Prescribing programme, as well as leading on short course development. I also completed a PG Diploma in Online and Distance Education with the Open University in 2021.

During my time in academia, I demonstrated the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and led several collaborative projects with other academic institutions. I honed my project management skills and completed projects on time and to a high standard. I have published professional development articles in the pharmacy press as well as research papers and am the author of two book chapters.

In 2022, I decided it was time for a new career direction and established EL Learning Design with Ellie Bates. I bring healthcare experience to the company and a deep understanding of how healthcare professionals learn. I use my skills in networking and collaboration to identify the right team for each project, and my skills in medical writing and project management to ensure content meets the required standard and projects are completed on time.

I like learning about lots of different things and love the range of projects I work on through EL Learning Design. I am privileged to work with the talented and creative Ellie Bates and am enjoying the opportunity to develop my own creative skills. I approach each new project with enthusiasm and a commitment to produce learning that will be impactful and make a difference to practice.

I'm always looking for new and exciting opportunities. Let's connect.
